Video Analysis – Receptive Skills
I don’t feel stupid anymore!! It is OK to fingerspell clearly rather than try to go as fast as possible. I am doing the right thing after all.
I feel more confident in my abilities and it was nice to learn that even deaf people don’t understand everything on first viewing of a video clip.
A very helpful workshop. I have learnt some useful strategies and tips and am glad to know I’m not alone and that others have the same problems and anxieties as me.
Have picked up some really good methods to improve the way I study and how to get the best from watching video clips.
I found the day hard to start with but my receptive skills improved as the day went on.

I found the day very challenging. It has given me a lot to think about. I’m sure this workshop will be the basis of some improvement in my signing skills.
This exercise really improved my knowledge of placement and story order. The day has really helped me improve my ‘English to BSL’ translation.
Easy to understand explanations and well informed on techniques.
Use of placement was most important and really useful to practice those skills and learn more about the ‘deaf way’.
Reinforced my understanding of translation and which strategies to use.
Plenty to go home and practice with. I felt I gained a lot of information regarding placement during this workshop.
Each translation was difficult to start with but as we learnt the best strategies and skills to use it became easier.
Now I can go away and practice placement, how to link placements, when to use referents, how to use placements to shorten English.
